Armenian President Robert Kocharian pardoned all inmates who were sentenced to death by shooting under the old Criminal Code, the presidential press service said. All 42 death row inmates had their death penalty replaced by a life sentence. Under the new Criminal Code adopted by the Armenian parliament in 2003, the maximum punishment is a life sentence. The only exceptions being the rape of a minor and terrorism.
