AUSTRALIA. PM SUPPORTS DEATH PENALTY OF SADDAM HUSSEIN

Australian Prime Minister John Howard said he believed former Iraqi president Saddam Hussein should be executed if the Iraqi law authorises death penalty on him. Asked if Saddam should be executed if found guilty of murdering on
Australia's Southern Cross Broadcasting radio, Howard said "If the law of Iraq authorises that, then yes."
Although Australia does not have the death penalty, Howard said he supported the death penalty in this case because it was the law of the country.
"The law should apply equally to everybody," he said.
"We don't believe in capital punishment but that doesn't mean we conduct a campaign around the world in every case to stop it occurring," he said.
