Australian Prime Minister John Howard said that Indonesia would have Australia's blessing if it imposed the death penalty on anyone convicted of the Bali bombings. After meeting Indonesia's President Megawati Sukarnoputri, Mr Howard said Australia's usual objections to the application of the death penalty would not apply in the case of the Bali bombers. "They should be dealt with in accordance with Indonesian law," Mr Howard said, adding that he would accept the death penalty if it was applied. "If that is what the law of Indonesia provides, well, that is how things should proceed," he said.
