Australian, US and German special forces may mount a risky operation to rescue the eight western aid workers being held hostage by the Taliban in Afghanistan.
The eight, who are accused of spreading Christianity to Muslims, are believed to have been moved to an old school on the outskirts of Kabul during the US bombing campaign.
Britain's The Times newspaper said it understood that Australian SAS troops could join their German and American colleagues in a daring raid to rescue the eight.
The eight are charged with proselytising, and may face the death penalty.
