BANGLADESH. FIVE MEN SENTENCED TO DEATH FOR MURDER

five men were sentenced to death in absentia in Narayanganj, Bangladesh, for the murder of local law and order committee adviser at Fatullah. District and Sessions Judge Abul Mansoor pronounced the verdict of death by hanging to Excell Kamal, Ibrahim alias Ibu, Rubel, Jainuddin alias Junu and Rafiq, all in their late 30s. Of the accused, Ibrahim and Rubel had been previously killed during a gunfight with authorities, Jainuddin and Kmal absconded after securing bail while Rafiq had remained fugitive since the incident. Each of them was also fined Tk 50,000. According to the prosecution, on March 2, 2004, the accused called Giasuddin Ahmed, 50, out of his home and sprayed him with bullets leaving him dead on the spot.
