BANGLADESH: FOUR TO WALK GALLOWS FOR DOUBLE MURDER IN RAJSHAHI

a court in Rajshahi, Bangladesh, condemned four people to death for raping and killing a woman and her daughter in 2006. According to the case history, Tariqul Islam alias Tota, Sonardi, Ismail Hossain Babu and Mokhter Hossain raped their fellow-villager Miliara, wife of Saudi expatriate Rafiqul, one after another, at Dhoapara Jawban village in Godagari upazila on the holy night of ‘Shab-e-Qadr’ on October 20, 2006. As her daughter, Pervin, saw the incident and resisted them, the rapists slaughtered both the mother and daughter. On March 4, 2008, the case was shifted to the Speedy Trail Tribunal Court from the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal because of its seriousness. Mokhter was tried in absentia.
