BANGLADESH: HUSBAND GETS DEATH PENALTY FOR KILLING WIFE IN NILPHAMARI

a husband was sentenced to death and fined Taka 5,000 for killing his wife over a dowry in the Nilphamari district of Bangladesh. Special Judge M.A Noor of the Women and Child Repression prevention special court found Zahurul Islam, 29, of Singergari Jummapara village, beat his wife Piari Begum to death over a Taka 10,000 dowry on August 7, 2005. Four others were acquitted.
