BANGLADESH: MAN TO GO TO GALLOWS FOR KILLING BNP LEADER IN CHUADANGA

at a court in Chuadanga, Bangladesh, Additional Sessions Judge Motahar Hossaina convicted a regional leader of an outlawed party and sentenced him to death for killing BNP leader Nur Ali in 2005. The accused, Yusuful Goni, alias Khairul, of Sonadanga village of Khulna, was the regional leader of Janajuddha, one of the factions of the Purbo Bangla Communist Party (BPCP). According to the prosecution, Shankerchandra union parisahd (UP) chairman and BNP leader Nur Ali were killed in a brush fire by some Janajuddha cadres at Dingedaha village in sadar upazila on June 22,2005. Of the five accused of the case, Janajuddha chief Abdur Rashid Malitha alias Dada Tapan, Sumon and Azad were killed in crossfire. Another accused, Abdul Majid, was acquitted as his guilt was not proved.
