BANGLADESH: MAN TO GO TO GALLOWS FOR KILLING WIFE IN PANCHAGARH

a court in Panchagarh, Bangladesh, sentenced a man to death for killing his wife about 12 years ago. Judge Amulya Kumar Sarkar, of the Additional District and Sessions Judge Court also fined the condemned convict, Chan Mia, Tk 20,000, in absentee. According to the prosecution, Chan Mia of Kaukhali village in Boda upazila strangled his wife and dumped the body under the sands of a river on March 15, 1996 as she failed to meet his dowry demand. After the killing Chan Mia went into hiding.
