BANGLADESH: MAN TO GO TO GALLOWS FOR MURDER IN MAGURA

a court in Magura, Bangladesh, sentenced a man to death for killing his wife for dowry on February 8, 2006. Firoz Mahmud, 28, of Sharsuna village in Salikha upazila, was tried in absentia for stabbing and strangling Monira Khatun. Judge of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-2 M Nazir Ahmed handed down the verdict. Eight other accused were acquitted as their guilt was not proved.
