BANGLADESH: MAN TO WALK GALLOWS FOR KILLING WIFE IN JHENIDAH

a court in Jhenidah, Bangladesh, convicted a man and sentenced him to death for killing his wife for dowry four years ago. The man was identified as Jahangir Alam, alias Jan-e-Alam, 24, of Dudshar village of Kotchandpur upazila of the district. According to the prosecution, Alam beat his wife Madina Khatun,19, of Mamunshia village of the same upazila, to death on April 18, 2005, following a dowry dispute. Additional District Judge-1 M Belayet Ullah handed down the verdict, acquitting four others.
