Death-row convict Maku Rabi Das was executed inside Sylhet Central Jail by hangman Raju who was taken there from Kashimpur Jail in Gazipur. Senior officials of the administration were present during the execution.
Maku Rabi Das hailed from village Daragaon under Chunarughat upazila in Habiganj district. He was the son of Samadhani Rabi Das.
Rabi Das was the death-row convict in a murder case committed about 16 years ago. He hacked a neighbour to death in 2001.
Later, Maku Rabi Das filed an appeal to higher court against his death sentence. However, the court upheld his death sentence. Later, he sought clemency from the president which was also rejected.
