Abu Bakkar Siddique, 28, and Afsar Ali, 29, were sentenced to death by a court in Satkhira, Bangladesh, for the murder of a jewellery shop owner at Nakipur bazaar in the country’s Shymnagar district. Afsar was sentenced in absentia as he remained in hiding. According to the prosecution, the two sneaked into the premises on the night of March 17, 2002 where they found Amjad Hossain asleep in his shop.
