the Speedy Trial Tribunal of Dhaka, Bangladesh, sentenced to death Zalal Ahmed alias Zillu and Maksudur Rahman alias Biplob and awarded life imprisonment to Parash for the murder of Swapan Goshwami, a teacher at the Government Laboratory School of Dhanmondi in Dhaka.
According to the prosecution, Tanvir Sharif Apan, a student at the school who was expelled from the examination hall, and fellow student Shantani, who failed to obtain promotion, hired “professional killer” Zillu and his associates to murder the teacher they saw as the source of their ills. On October 10, 2002, Zillu and Biplob shot the victim repeatedly at Bhuter Gali, Dhaka, killing him on the spot. The case against the students was pending at the Juvenile Court.
