Botswana was summoned to appear before the African Human and People's Rights Commission sitting in Pretoria, South Africa from May 2 to10.
According to a statement from the Botswana Centre for Human Rights, Ditshwanelo, the country has been summoned in connection with the infamous 2001 execution of South African national Mariette Bosch.
The government stands accused of violating Bosch's right to life, dignity and her right to be heard before execution as enshrined in Sections 4, 5 and 7 of the African Charter of Human and People's Rights.
Bosch, convicted of murdering another South African woman whose husband she was having an affair with, was executed on 31 March 2001, four days after a request for a stay of execution pending a ruling on complaints filed by her attorneys was communicated to the government.
