Briton Tracy Housel was executed by lethal injection, prison authorities in Georgia confirmed.
The 43-year-old convicted murderer was executed at the state prison in Jackson, Georgia, and declared dead at 7.28pm local time (0028 GMT). His death came despite an 11th-hour bid by the British government to convince local authorities to grant him clemency.
Housel spent more than 16 years on death row after the murder in 1985 of Jean Drew in Winnett County.
