CAMBODIA: HUN SEN WANTS DEATH SENTENCE FOR CHILD RAPISTS

Prime Minister Hun Sen on 10 March 2019 said he wants the constitution amended to allow the death sentence for child rapists.
“I want an initiative to have the constitution amended to allow for the death sentence for anyone who rapes underage children, such as a father raping his children, a grandfather raping his grandchildren, or an uncle raping his nieces,” Mr Hun Sen said.
Mr Hun Sen said that he will not send the request to the National Assembly or King Norodom Sihamoni directly, and instead wants to see a people’s referendum.
Cambodia abolished the death penalty in 1989.
