Chechen rebels have executed by a firing squad a man accused of murdering Khattab, a prominent rebel warlord of Arab origin.
All leading Russian news agencies quoting, Chechen mojahedin shura's military council, identified the executed man as Ibragim Alauri, an ethnic Dagestani, who fought alongside rebels in the 1994-96 Chechen war.
In early May, the majlisul shura (the supreme body of religious-juridical power) sentenced Ibragim to death.The rebels' web site, Kavkaz.org, said the traitor had been gunned down for treason and cooperation with Dagestani secret services.
