CHINA. BUSINESSMAN EXECUTED FOR MULTI-MILLION-DOLLAR SCAMS

Meng Fanhui was executed in China's Liaoning province for a series of scams that included swindling local consumers out of 30 million yuan (3.7 million dollars). Meng was executed for fake business operations he instigated as director of Shenyang Longjie Commercial Trading Company.
He was reportedly convicted of raising 68 million yuan in illegal funds and swindling unwary consumers out of 30 million yuan.
In one of the operations, Meng and his partners were found guilty of illegally raising 26 million yuan in membership fees and purchasing scams at his buyers club in the Liaoning city of Benxi in 1999.
He also ran similar scams in eastern China's Shandong province in 1999, raising some 19.7 million yuan, of which 9.2 million yuan was considered to have been fraudulently raised.
After raking in the cash, Meng and his partner disappeared in late 1999, but police arrested him in China's southern island of Hainan in April 2000. Meng was reportedly taken to the "execution ground", an event that likely meant he was executed with a bullet to the back of his head.
