CHINA: CHINESE COURT COMMUTES DEATH SENTENCES OF NEPALESE PAIR

a Chinese court commuted the capital punishment for two Nepalis who were convicted in a case of drug trafficking to life imprisonment. The Nepali men benefiting from the decision are Kharpa Tamang, 50, and Da Ghale of Dhading District. Chinese security personnel arrested them 15 months ago as they landed at Shanghai airport, concealing 80-90 capsules of narcotic substances in their bodies. Nirmal Kafle, a consular official at the Nepalese embassy in Beijing, who recently met the head of the prison said that the pair are incarcerated in Chhinpu International Prison in Shanghai, and they could be released on parole if they show good behaviour.
