Wang Gongzuo, a 25-year-old man, was sentenced to death by the Beijing intermediate court for the murder of two Filipino tourists on Tiananmen Square in central Beijing. Wang declined to appeal the verdict. He was convicted of killing Emmanuel Madrigal, 49, and his daughter Regina Mia Madrigal on Tiananmen Square on the morning of April 19. Madrigal's wife was also seriously wounded in the attack, but survived. The family were a part of a Filipino tour group visiting the famous site. The attack occurred near the mausoleum of former Chinese leader Mao Zedong situated in the middle of the square.
