CHINA: EX-OFFICIAL GETS DEATH FOR GRAFT

A former official in China has been awarded death sentence with a two-year reprieve for taking bribe of over 100 million yuan (over $16 million) from local party and government officials and business representatives.
Luo Yinguo, former party chief of Maoming, a port city in Guangdong province, was sentenced to death by Zhongshan Intermediate People's Court, reported China Daily citing police.
The 59-year-old Luo was party chief of Gaozhou, the secretary-general of the Maoming Party Committee, and the mayor of Maoming before being promoted as the party chief of Maoming in 2007.
Luo was punished for receiving bribes from 64 local party and government officials and business representatives while being in office from 1993 to 2011.
The court confiscated the remaining bribe money and deprived him of his political right to life.
Luo was detained in February 2011.
