Xu Hongbing, 32, of Duchang County in Jiangxi's Jiujiang City, had been on the run since killing the woman surnamed Shao, her parents and two younger brothers on January 29, 1996.
The pair had become engaged in 1995, but Shao changed her mind shortly after and rejected Xu's marriage proposals, the Jiujiang intermediate people's court heard.
Xu fled after the murders and was apprehended on February 12, 2006 in Fuyang City in east China's Anhui Province.
