Wu Ying, whose assets, totaling about $550 million, made her the sixth-richest woman in China in 2006, appealed her death sentence in an alleged illegal fund-raising case to a high court in Jinhua in Zhejiang province, China Daily reported. A lower court gave her the maximum death penalty in December 2009 and deprived of her political rights for life and confiscated all personal property.
