CHINA. HIT-AND-RUN DRIVER EXECUTED

Fu Zhongtao, a man convicted of hitting and dragging a nine-year-old girl to her death with a luxury car, was executed by lethal injection in northeast China. Fu was executed for hitting Xiao Jinping in February 2005 and dragging her more than two kilometres to her death. The hit-and-run occurred on the streets of Changchun city, the capital of Jilin province, it said. Despite many eyewitnesses who signalled Fu to stop the car, the driver sped away from the scene, reports said, adding that the owner of the vehicle remained at large and was being sought by the police. Xiao's father said he hoped to bring a civil suit against the owner as he had no money to pay his daughter's funeral expenses.
