the Shanghai No 2 Intermediate People's Court issued the death penalty to a robber who killed an elderly shop worker for a few hundred yuan. From June 2005 to June 2006, Ye Jianping carried out 14 robberies, taking property valued at more than 56,000 yuan (US$7,254). On the night of June 8 last year, Ye broke into a candle shop on Baoxing Road E where he was surprised by the shop owner. He strangled the 91 year old woman and stole 500 yuan.
