in its final trial, the Foshan City Intermediate People's Court in Guangdong Province, China, upheld the original verdict sentencing Guo Jizong, Zhang Fajian and Peng Guowei to death and Li Shaoze and Wang Jiazhang to life imprisonment for drug trafficking. It was alleged that on 12 October 2003, Ying and Chen asked Guo and Peng to contact Li in Foshan City. Peng was asked to have Li transport four large stone Buddhist statues from Ruili city in Yunnan Province to Guangzhou city. On 24 October 2003, Zhang contacted Guo and the others with the intention of purchasing heroin. Police arrested the suspects during a transaction in a park, confiscating 77.9 kg of heroin and a car. They also arrested Wang in Ruili city. Guo and Peng of Yunnan Province and Zhang from Guangzhou were executed immediately after the sentences were passed.
