"China will use its influence to encourage a fair solution to the issue of the Bulgarian nurses sentenced in Libya," Wu Bangguo, chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress (NPC), told Bulgarian National Assembly Chairman Ognyan Gerdzhikov at the start of a four day official visit to the country. The NPC chairman's statement came in response to Gerdzhikov's request for diplomatic efforts on the part of Beijing to save the five Bulgarian nurses sentenced to death in Libya on HIV infection charges.
