Liu Suhua, a 36-year-old woman, was executed in Sanming City, in China's Fujian Province, for killing her former boyfriend and forcing teenage girls into prostitution. Liu, a villager of Ruijin in neighboring Jiangxi Province, and a mother of two at the time, began working as a restaurant attendant in Sanming in 1993. By late 1994, she got to know a taxi driver identified as Yang. Soon the two began to live together. Not long after she divorced her husband, however, Liu found out Yang was an alcoholic and a womanizer. Frequent quarrels ended the relationship. On September 5, 1995, Liu left Sanming. However, five days later on September 10, she returned to Yang's residence to "pleasantly surprise him."
That afternoon, Yang returned home drunk and lay in bed flirting with a woman on the phone. Liu exchanged words with Yang and then fatally stabbed him with a knife. She tried to commit suicide by electrocuting herself but failed. She then fled the scene. It was also alleged that in early 1999, Liu lured three teenage girls from Ruijin to Chao'an County, Guangdong Province, promising them jobs. Instead Liu turned them into sex workers and later forced them to offer sex services in Jiangxi, Zhejiang and Jiangsu provinces before setting them free because they contracted sexually transmitted diseases. Liu was caught in Chaozhou, Guangdong, in September 2004.
