Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhu Bangzao called on South Korea to conduct a thorough and all-round investigation and verification into the Shin Ok-tu [name as transliterated] case and immediately cease its unfounded allegations against China.
According to South Korean media reports, China has violated the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations in executing the South Korean convict Shin Ok-tu without first notifying the Korean side.
Zhu Bangzao said that according to verifications conducted by the Chinese side, the departments concerned had not only promptly notified the South Korean embassy in China of the detention and arrest of Shin Ok-tu and his accomplices, but that the Foreign Affairs Department of Heilongjiang Province had also delivered the written judgment on the review of the death sentence to the Heilongjiang Consular Office of the South Korean embassy in China after the Supreme Court approved the death sentence on Shin.
