Chongqing Number One Intermediate People's Court sentenced 24 alleged drug traffickers to death, the Chongqing Daily reported. On 14 May 2001, Yang Meirong (2799 5019 1369), female, aged 22, allegedly smuggled drugs to Chengdu, in Sichuan Province. Police arrested her at the bus station, confiscating 2.13 kg of heroin and four kg of ecstasy pills, the paper reported.
On 2 April 2001, Zhang Tianhua (1728 1131 5478), allegedly mixed heroin with red sugar inside bamboo shoots and transported it in a truck to Chengdu.
On 5 April 2001, the police arrested Zhang during a transaction, confiscating 12.1 kg of heroin, the paper reported.
