Commenting on the rejection of the Italian candidature for one of the two non-permanent seats assigned to Eurpoe by the U.N Security Council, the Minister for foreign affairs Lamberto Dini declared that the decision "neither changes Italy's role nor questions its commitments, starting with its battle against the death penalty".
