Cook County Judge J.G. Kazmierski Jr. on Monday signed the death warrant for Paul Runge. In signing the warrant, Kazmierski certified a jury’s recommendation in late February to sentence Runge to death.
A jury on Feb. 27 (see) convicted Runge of raping and killing Yolanda Gutierrez, 35, and her 10-year-old daughter, Jessica Muniz. The 2 bodies were found in February 1997.
Runge confessed to the crimes -- and allegedly to the murders of 5 other women -- on videotape.
