in light of last year’s session of the UN Commission on Human Rights and the initiative to adopt the UN Resolution for a moratorium on executions, the Governmental Office for Human Rights of the Republic of Croatia has organised a round table discussion on the following topic: «Justification for the Death Penalty?».
The Office for Human Rights has organised the round table – to be held on March 3 in Zagreb - with Non-governmental organisations Hands off Cain and Transnational Radical Party (TRP).
The intention is to conduct expertise-based deliberations on the justification for and purpose of pronouncing the death penalty nowdays, in the context of developments at the international level and to exchange experiences and legislative solutions with representatives of foreign diplomatic missions whose countries are abolitionist or de facto abolitionist, or retentionist.
Representatives of the authorities of the Republic of Croatia, and civil society organisations and independent Croatian and foreign experts shall participate in these deliberations.
The event will see interventions by the Head of Governmental Office for Human Rights, Luka Maderic, Representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Justice, MEP Emma Bonino, HOC «Africa Project» responsible Elisabetta Zamparutti, and Marina Szikora – TRP.
