in India, Additional District Judge RN Chand sentenced 65 year old Farookh alias Nana alias Bashir alias Rauf to death torching eight people to death. The man set a house at Tila Jamalpura on fire on October 14, 2007, when the family members along with neighbours were busy in celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr. Those who were killed included a one-year-old boy and three girls. Mumtaz (45), the head of ill-fated family, accused the culprit of casting evil eyes on his daughters, which led to a verbal feud between Nasim (the complainant's wife) and Rauf. The accused threatened the family with dire consequences and eventually charred the eight people to death in a bid to avenge the incident, Mumtaz alleged in his dying declaration. Mumtaz's wife Nasim (40), daughters Sabina (14), Rubina (17), Raveena (10) and sons Imtiyaz (6) and Mukhtar (1) along with neighbour Abdul Hamid (45) were killed in the incident. Mumtaz too succumbed to injuries in the hospital.
