DEATH SENTENCES AGAINST THREE YOUNG IRAQI WOMEN

the National Lawyers Guild International Committee (NLG-IC) has received information that an Iraqi Tribunal has convicted and sentenced three young Iraqi women to death for terrorism offences. They are identified as Wassan Talib, 31, Zeynab Fadhil, 25, and Liqa Omar Muhammad, 26. The group demanded the cancellation of the death sentences, stating they were denied legal counsel and have denied the charges against them. Access to legal counsel is a fundamental right to a fair trial, and NLGC-IC therefore states the trial was against International Human Rights Law. Two of the convicted have small children, the one-year-old daughter of Liqa was born in prison.
