December 11, 20001: Palestinian National Authority (PNA) officials criticized a European Union statement for equalizing the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories with the Palestinians' legal resistance of the occupation.
PNA Parliament Affairs Minister Nabil Amr said that "if the EU and the U.S consider the intifada as a kind of terrorism to be ended, they have to consider the Israeli actions of assassinations as an illegal death sentence."
EU foreign ministers issued an unusually strong-worded statement after a meeting in Brussels on December 10, calling on Arafat to issue an appeal in Arabic to end the Palestinian intifada (uprising), and dismantle the "terrorist" networks of (Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement) Hamas and Islamic Jihad.
