Deputy Prime Minister Saidamir Zuhurov told reporters that a public opinion poll on the attitude of citizens towards the possibility of declaring a moratorium on or abolishing capital punishment had been conducted in Tajikistan in 2002. According to its results, 73.4 per cent of the country's population said capital punishment should remain.
