DevNet, a development information NGO, called on the Federal Government and the Sokoto State Government to speedily intervene and save Safiya Tungar-Tudu from death by stoning.
Safiya, a mother of four children was sentenced to death by stoning by the Sokoto Sharia Upper Court for adultery.
"DevNet pleads with the Federal Government of Nigeria and the Sokoto State Government to speedily save Safiya and our great country Nigeria from another retrogression into the dark ages," DevNet said in a release endorsed by its Executive Director Annie Davis.
The organisation called on the international community, civil society groups, women advocacy groups, the judiciary, religious leaders and the media to use their good offices to prevail upon both governments to help save Safiya for her children, her family, and Nigeria.
