During a press conference entitled "China: not only death penalty" organized by Hands off Cain, Erping Zhang, international spokesman for Falun Gong, denounced the abuses against the movement by the Chinese government, which banned Falun Gong from China in 1999. The press conference was attended also by Marco Pannella, European Parliamentarian, Sergio d'Elia, Secretary of Hands off Cain, Elisabetta Zamparutti, author of Hands off Cain Report and Alfredo Fava, Italian contact of Falun Gong. The Falun Gong denounced its own figures: 50,000 people arrested, 10,000 sent to labour camps or interned in psychiatric hospitals and 208 persons tortured to death by the Chinese authorities. Hands off Cain's international secretary Sergio D'Elia denounced the death penalty process and the number of executions in China, which totalled over 400 in April alone. It was announced that the web site of Falun Gong will host the on line campaign for a moratorium at the UN. Marco Pannella, said the Transnational Radical Party, that already invited Dalia Lama and Chineese dissident Wei Jingsheng, will invite Falun Gong leader Li Hung-zhi in Italy and will ask new Italian government to receive him.
