EGYPT: 9 MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD MEMBERS SENTENCED TO DEATH

Nine convicts, allegedly belonging  to the outlawed Muslim brotherhood, were sentenced to death by hanging, while 13 others were handed a life sentence over killing a police guard of a judge who presided in former Mohamed Morsi’s trial.
Another convict was sentenced to 10 years in jail, stated the Manoura Criminal Court.
According to prosecution investigations, the convicts killed, with premeditation, police sergeant Abdullah Abdullah of Dakahlia security directorate while he was guarding Judge Hussein Qandil’s house on Feb. 28, 2014.
The security forces have arrested the convicts inside a house in Mansoura city of Dakahlia and seized a number of explosives, guns, and maps of vital public entities.
On July 9, the court referred death sentences against 10 defendants to the Grand Mufti to take his advisory opinion.
Qandil was one of three presiding judges who sentenced Morsi to 20 years in prison for inciting violence outside the Ittihadiya Palace in December 2012.
