Egypt's parliament approved most of the African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the African Child. Parliamentary affairs minister Kamal el-Shazli mentioned in parliament clauses outlawing death sentences against pregnant and nursing women.Egyptian law allows the death sentence for pregnant women, but it can not be implemented until two months after birth.
