Enrico Buemi, MP (SDI - Italian Social Democrats) and Hands Off Cain member, deposited an urgent parliamentary question at the Chamber of Deputies, addressed to Foreign Minister Frattini and signed by 50 MPs from all sides, asking the government to inform Parliament on the results of the EU General Affairs Council held on 29-30 September, relative the UN moratorium on executions.
In Particular the MPs want to know the stance that was adopted by other EU member states and what initiatives the Italian government intends to undertake, following the meeting, in order to present a pro-moratorium resolution at the ongoing UN General Assembly.
The cross party initiative is of particular importance in view of the next General Affairs Council due to be held on 30 October in Luxemburg where, it is presumed, Europe will take a definitive stance on whether to present a resolution for a universal moratorium on capital executions at this year's General Assembly.
