European Union Council President and Spanish foreign minister Josep Pique announced his plans for a tour the following week of Middle Eastern countries in an effort to broker peace in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
The European Union and Spain "are aware of the enormous gravity of the situation" in the region, which is doubtless, "the worst in the past several years," Pique said.
The situation "forces us to demand certain actions from both parties which we have already outlined in EU communiques," Pique said.
Such actions "include a permanent and decisive attitude by the Palestinian National Authority against any form of terrorism, but it also supposes asking Israel to end summary executions, dismantle restrictions and economic blockades, end its policy of settlements and respect international laws," Pique said.
