FARMER GETS DEATH SENTENCE FOR SLAYING SIX PEOPLE IN NE CHINA

a Chinese farmer who killed six villagers and injured 10 others in 2007 was sentenced to death by the Intermediate People's Court of Changchun City, the capital of the north eastern Chinese province of Jilin. Liu Liliang, 39, stabbed a villager named Yao Wenda on September 11. The two were drinking when a quarrel began at a market in Helong Township of Nong'an County. Liu subsequently killed six people and injured several others in the neighbouring village. Liu was fined 1,000 yuan (US$143). The court also ordered him to pay compensation to the victims and their families. Liu had long intended to kill these people over economic disputes, the court said.
