Following a landmark trip to Turkey, George Papandreou, the Greek Foreign Minister, said Greece would not tolerate terrorism, and said "human rights, protection of minorities, and capital punishment are important for us." He recalled that capital punishment was abolished in the EU candidate countries, and said that within the body of the EU, they were against capital punishment everywhere, including Turkey.
