Four people, including a fisherman from Taiwan and a resident of Hong Kong, were executed in southern China's Guangdong Province for manufacturing or trafficking in fake coins and currency. Zhuang Tianhuo, the captain of a Taiwanese fishing boat, was allegedly caught transferring 18 boxes of fake 100-yuan notes to Chen Pei at sea in July 1998.
Hong Kong resident Cai Rong and Xie Zhuxin from Guangdong were executed for their involvement in a separate counterfeiting case.
A third case led to the execution of Guangdong resident Zhuo Bing.
