Four people were sentenced to death in India for raping and strangulating a six-year-old girl. It was alleged that around 1998, six-year-old Sushma had stepped out of her house for morning ablutions when she was accosted by four men - Babu Ansari, Aamir, Pawan Singh and Arjun Singh.
"It is clear from the post mortem report that the deceased was raped and sodomised before she was strangulated to death," additional district and session judge G.K. Sharma said in his 43-page judgement.
Terming it "the rarest of rare cases", the judgement said the court should rise above all considerations like social sentiments and liberalism, and judge a crime on the basis of the impact it might have on society.
