Four Zimbabwean men are to be extradited to Botswana to face a murder charge, Northern Province police said.
Captain Ailwei Mushavhanamadi said the four, aged between 20 and 35, had argued with a fifth man, who was strangled and beaten to death.
The murder took place in Botswana, as all five returned from Zimbabwe to South Africa, where they worked on a farm during the week. The men now face extradition to Botswana where they could receive the death penalty if convicted for the murder.
If the four Zimbabweans are extradited, South Africa may insist they not be hanged.
