George Junior Porter will be re-sentenced for 1st-degree murder in the 1988 beating death of Theresa Jones. George Junior Porter appealed his sentence after the U-S Supreme Court ruled last year that a jury, not a judge, must decide all elements of a crime before a death sentence can be handed down. Second District Judge John Bradbury decided that ruling applies retroactively to Porter. A date for the sentencing hasn't been set. Porter was convicted in 1990 of beating his girlfriend to death.
